Running Punks

ESM x Running Punks

The Running Punks radio show on Union Jack Radio is like Desert Island Discs, but punk style. And on the run! Imagine the wind blowing in your hair (if you have any), the sun on your face, your favourite tunes in your ears, and two blokes talking utter nonsense while, literally, on the run.

The Running Punks are the anti-running running club. A community where owning the latest carbon-bladed trainers, achingly on trend lycra and posting your PBs to Strava cuts no ice.

They’re the runners who don’t even tie their shoelaces, where the whole world is their mosh pit and they choose the finish line.

We wanted to bring these unique characters to the UK airwaves and, supported by a grant from the Audio Content Fund, we found the perfect partner in Union Jack Radio and their nationwide network of DAB digital radio stations.

The series was developed by ESM and Running Punks to create a show that reflected their brand and values - encouraging engagement from like-minded people who had never heard of them, while still engaging their core audience.

The idea was successfully pitched to the Audio Content Fund, and we went about delivering our first-ever radio series. We made a series of seven programmes featuring fascinating, off-the-wall guests, superb, personal music playlists and, for the full, authentic experience, we recorded the whole programme while actually on the run.

Don’t believe us? Go and check them out here. The paperwork was a nightmare. The programmes were fabulous fun. Follow the Running Punks on Instagram and Twitter.
